The first photo is the selection of Koa that will be used for the back and sides of my Sequoia, which is Marks largest guitar model . The second shot shows the binding that will be used. The third shot shows the sides bent and the neck and tail blocks installed. The final shot is of the exquisite Adirondack (Red Spruce) top with the rosette. This is the most interesting top I have seen. Plenty of "bear clawed" tops have been seen, but this top is different. There is an unusual amount of mineral deposits in the wood that showed up as plum colored streaks. After seeing this and the color of the Koa, the guitar was dubbed "Big Red" Part of the building process that I enjoy with Blanchard is the communication. Both Kathy and Mark know what's going on at any given time. There are a lot of good builders out there and it's important to get to know the one your going to have build your guitar. I selected Blanchard Guitars based on the tone of Marks guitars the fact that they run a very good business was a real bonus.
